“Peplum” refers to a short gathered or pleated fabric strip attached at the waist of a woman's tunic, jacket, dress, or blouse( even saree blouses) to create a hanging frill look. To me it looks more like the tiny umbrella in our lemonade glass.Now i think it would be easier to imagine for the newbies.Some of you might now be able to reminisce the beautiful fashion models on those magazine or runways adorning such tiny umbrellas on their waist aka the peplums. If that is your first question on peplums;my answer would be all types. Wait! Before you judge me ; let me make this simple for you and explain how the peplum adorned attires might be flattering for all figure types.

  1. PETITE FIGURE TYPES: Peplum can work wonders on thin straight frames.It adds the illusion of wider hips and hence give you an hourglass shape. If thats the case what about people with already wider hips? Why  would someone add extra fabric there and look even wider? Well thats not true.
  2. HEAVY BOTTOMED FIGURE aka HEAVY HIPS: The most flattering length of a peplum would be about 2 inches below your hip bones.contrary to the common belief a peplum actually draws the attention away from the full hips and bosom and make the waist look narrower.
  3. BELLY (THICK WAISTED ) FIGURE: If you have got stubborn belly fat, or may the extra pooch or pregnancy;peplums can help you too by hiding the places you wish to hide

  1. PEPLUM TOPS : pair these tops with tapered pants, skinny jeans or a snug narrow shirt. Shorts and mini skirts go well too for those with narrow hips
  2. INDOWESTERN PEPLUMS: the indowestern look is much in trend these days. There are many varieties of such peplum blouses that you can pair with ur elegant sarees, moreover peplum tunics can be tried with narrow salwars too.

  1. SILK : Since ethnic peplum are usually paired with sarees and traditional style maxi skirts, these are generally made of rich fabrics like silk. The silk makes these peplum tops appear sophisticated and worth all the splurge..
  2. BROCADE: peplums of brocade fabric make a perfect choice for the weddings and the festivities. You can use a heavy embroidered one or one with small motifs and prints; anything will make you stand out.
  3. EMBROIDERED PEPLUMS : these make a perfect combo with ethnic trousers and dhoti salwar. Some peplums are available as jackets too and you can choose it for a layered classy look.
